CANgauge Terms of Purchase
Last updated: Oct 28, 2026
1. Agreement and Acceptance
By ordering, receiving, installing, or using the CANgauge, you agree to these Terms of Purchase ("Terms"). These Terms are a binding agreement between Jags Electronics LLC ("Seller," "we," or "us") and the person or entity buying the CANgauge ("Buyer" or "you").
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not buy or use the CANgauge. If you are buying it as a gift or for someone else, you are responsible for making sure the person who uses it sees and accepts these Terms.
2. Product and Intended Use
The CANgauge is an aftermarket electronic gauge. It ships with software that enables it to be plugged into a vehicle's OBD-II port, read SAE J1979 data the vehicle makes available, and shows it on a built-in screen (the "Product"). This is done using the ISO 15765 network.
Seller is not affiliated with, and the Product is not made, endorsed, or approved by, any vehicle manufacturer. Which data is available to the OBD-II software varies by make, model, year, and engine.
4. Installation, Compatibility, and Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
• Confirming the Product is compatible with your vehicle before you buy. Any compatibility information we provide is a guide, not a guarantee.
• Reading your vehicle's owner's manual and checking whether connecting an aftermarket device to the OBD port affects your manufacturer warranty, extended warranty, or insurance.
• Installing the Product correctly and securing its mounting and cables so nothing interferes with pedals, steering, airbags, or other controls. If you are unsure, have a qualified professional install it.
• Unplugging the Product immediately if you notice warning lights, drivability problems, heat, odors, battery drain, or unusual behavior.
• If you install it in a vehicle you do not own, getting the owner's permission first.
• Following all laws and regulations in your area that apply to the Product's use, mounting, and display.
5. Assumption of Risk
Connecting any aftermarket device to a vehicle's OBD port carries risk. By using the Product, you acknowledge and accept these risks, which include but are not limited to:
• Interference with or errors in the vehicle's computers, electronic systems, or data network (CAN bus), including warning lights, fault codes, or changes in how the vehicle operates.
• Battery drain or electrical faults.
• Loss of manufacturer or extended warranty coverage, or problems with insurance.
• Inaccurate, delayed, or missing data.
• Damage caused by incorrect installation, incompatibility, or a defect in the Product.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you voluntarily assume all of these risks and use the Product at your own risk.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE PRODUCT IS SOLD "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SELLER DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Seller does not promise that the Product will work with every vehicle, that it will be error-free or uninterrupted or that it will not affect your vehicle.
LIMITED WARRANTY: Seller warrants the Product hardware against defects in materials and workmanship for 30 days from delivery. If a covered defect appears during that period, Seller will, at its choice, repair or replace the Product or refund the purchase price. If the purchase price is to be refunded the Product must first be returned to Jags Electronics LLC. The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, accident, improper installation, modification, or use with an incompatible vehicle. Loading your own software on the gauge or attempt to use the device with external I2C devices voids your warranty. Damage to I2C interface is not covered under warranty.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be disclaimed. Where that is the case, any implied warranty is limited to the shortest duration the law permits.
7. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
1. SELLER IS NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF USE, LOST PROFITS, TOWING, RENTAL VEHICLES, OR DIMINISHED VALUE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE PRODUCT, EVEN IF SELLER WAS TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE.
2. SELLER'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATED TO THE PRODUCT, INCLUDING ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE OR ANY OTHER PROPERTY, WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID SELLER FOR THE PRODUCT.
3. THESE LIMITS APPLY TO ALL CLAIMS, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, WARRANTY, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER THEORY.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, such as liability for fraud or willful misconduct, or for death or personal injury where the law does not permit it to be limited.
8. Release and Indemnification
Release. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release Seller and its owners, employees, and contractors from all claims for damage to your vehicle or other property, and for any loss, arising from the installation or use of the Product, except for liability that cannot be released under Section 7.
Indemnification. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Seller and its owners, employees, and contractors from any third-party claim, and any resulting damages, losses, and costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees), arising from:
• Your use or misuse of the Product, or your installation of it.
• Any modification you make to the Product, or any software you load on it.
• Your violation of these Terms or of any law.
• Your lending, selling, gifting, or otherwise letting another person use the Product, including damage to a vehicle or property you do not own.
9. Open-Source Software
The CANgauge software is open source and is licensed separately from these Terms. The source code, license terms, and documentation are available at https://github.com/alex-jegers/CANgauge-core.git. Those licenses, not these Terms, govern your rights to use, copy, modify, and share the software, and nothing here limits those rights. If these Terms conflict with the software license about the software itself, the license controls.
Software you modify, build yourself, or get from anywhere other than the official repository is outside Seller's responsibility, and you use it at your own risk.
10. Modifications and Unauthorized Use
Opening the enclosure, changing or rewiring the hardware, using non-official firmware, powering the Product from anything other than a vehicle OBD port, or using it in any way not described in its instructions is done at your sole risk. These actions void any warranty, and Seller is not responsible for damage to the Product, your vehicle, or any other property that results from them.
11. Orders, Payment, Shipping, and Returns
• Price and payment. Prices are as listed when you order, plus shipping and applicable taxes. Payment is due when you place your order.
• Shipping. See shipping policy.
• Returns and refunds. Undamaged Products in original condition may be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the purchase price. Buyer pays return shipping. Refer to the return policy for details.
• Problems with your order. Contact support@can-gauge.com.
12. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact Seller at support@can-gauge.com and try in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
If the dispute is not resolved, it must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Hennepin County, Minneapolis, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
13. General Provisions
• Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent allowed and the rest will stay in effect.
• Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the open-source software license described in Section 9, are the entire agreement about your purchase and replace any earlier statements or listings about the Product.
• Changes. Seller may update these Terms. Updated Terms apply to orders placed after the "Last updated" date.
• No waiver. If Seller does not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver of it.
• Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without Seller's written consent.
• Survival. Sections 5 through 8 continue to apply after your purchase and after any return or refund.
• Your legal rights. Nothing in these Terms limits consumer rights that cannot be waived under the law where you live.
